School Is Cool

One of the best ways to stay connected is through school. You might be surprised to know that older “nontraditional” students comprise a rapidly growing share of college enrollment. In the 20 years between 1970 and 1990, nationwide enrollment of full-time students age 25 and over grew 164%. And the increase is even more remarkable for women age 40 plus: 235%!* Not surprisingly, more people are moving to university towns for the energy, intellectual and cultural stimulation they’d otherwise find in a major city. Most universities offer adult education programs, and many have a wide variety of courses. Whether someone plans to use such course materials to help start a new business venture or simply to explore a topic of interest, taking courses is a great way to stimulate the mind. It provides new avenues, new options and new topics. It also opens the door to meeting new people.
