"Retirement" Has A Bad Reputation
When you say "retirement," you may think of an old person in a rocking chair. It's a stereotype of someone with a limited existence. Yet, as you'll see in this website, retirement is much more than a comfortable rocking chair.
According to recent research, more than 50% of Americans reaching the age of 50 will have half their adult life ahead of them. That’s a long time. It makes sense for all of us to have a practical plan for living an active and vibrant life.
So instead of wealth accumulation, we challenge you to think about the adventures that lie ahead. Once again, we get things started with a simple list (you'll see a lot more lists in this site; we're trying to make you think)...
- Enjoyment
- Continuing education
- New hobbies
- More of the same hobbies
- A new job
- A new business venture
- Volunteerism
- Relaxation
- Travel
Whenever we recite a list of choices to new clients, they look a little funny. They have been so indoctrinated by the focus on amassing as much money as possible that they have not had the time to focus on all of the life choices that are open to them.
It’s important to have a reason—or several reasons—for building a nest egg. Plenty of money and nothing to do with it, is akin to being all dressed up with no place to go.
Therefore, the idea is to start imagining what your retirement lifestyle will look like and think in terms of how to create it. Then work on accumulating the money to make it a reality.
Here’s the ultimate goal of retirement planning: a long, comfortable, and totally worry-free lifestyle with no compromise and no concern about running out of money—ever.
